Tommy D. Jays

Tommy D. Jays is the head coach of Whitecaps women's basketball, where his teams have made a habit of finishing right around 22-8 and playing hard. A Cherry Hill native, he was a walk-on point guard at Belleville in Ohio, coached high school ball in South Jersey, and spent three seasons as associate head coach at Clayton Shores before Rockbeach hired him seven seasons ago. His newest recruit, incoming freshman All-American Bella Corey of Alexandria Township, averaged 45 points a game in her state tournament run. Attendance has grown ten percent a year on his watch, helped by theme nights, new seating sections and the one night a year his team takes the floor as the Mermaids. He keeps a standing weekly appointment with the ticket office, where he arrives with a notepad and leaves with a theme night. The D stands for Dominic, and only his mother uses it. He and his wife Renee have two sons.
