Tempest and Lightkeepers home dates, times and tickets are published by the clubs. Event dates and start times are subject to change; the arena’s tenants hold date priority.

A year at Tidewater Arena

About 250 events a year. Two clubs call the building home, a university brings 5 of its men’s basketball dates downtown, and the arena fills the other nights with concerts, touring and family shows.

The home teams

Tidewater Tempest

Tidewater Tempest Hockey

Top-level professional hockey since 2001-02, and the primary tenant of this building: 41 regular-season home games, October to April. With the ice sheet in, the arena seats 14,900 and the end configurations differ from the basketball bowl.

Season tickets, single games and the full schedule are handled by the club.

Tidewater Lightkeepers

Tidewater Lightkeepers Basketball

Minor league basketball on the arena floor: 24 home games, November to March, in the basketball configuration on nights the hockey is away.

Tickets and the full schedule are handled by the club. Family nights carry the club's family mark.

Why the building is here

The city nearly lost its hockey club. Tidewater Arena is how it kept it.

  1. 2001-02

The Tempest play their first season, in an old barn downtown. It was a good building, and for two decades it was home.

  2. Then, Austin

The league went looking for a team to move to Austin, Texas. Tidewater was not going to let it be this one.

  3. 2023

The taxpayers and the club’s ownership stepped up together and paid the bill for Tidewater Arena, so the city would keep its team. It opened in 2023, and the region has had a new standard ever since.

One building, two buildings

The same room, on two different nights. The ends a college basketball ticket sits in do not exist for a hockey game.

The basketball configuration
Basketball · 17,800 The full bowl. This is what Rockbeach sells on its five downtown dates.

Plan your visit

Bags

The arena bag policy applies to every event in the building, whoever is presenting it. It is set by Tidewater Arena Group and is revised from time to time — check it before you travel.

Re-entry

Re-entry is governed by arena policy, not by the event presenter, and it does not change for a college date.

Concessions

Food and drink in the building are the arena’s, including what is sold, what it costs and what may be brought in.

Accessible seating

Accessible and companion seating is available in every level. Ask the ticket seller you are buying from — for a college basketball date, that is the university.

Parking

$50 per car

Arena parking is a flat $50 per car, per event, in the arena decks and surface lots.

Arena lots: Arena Deck North, Arena Deck South and Waterfront Surface Lot.

One price for everybody

Tidewater Arena does not operate priority, donor or season parking tiers. Parking here is sold on the same terms to every visitor, whatever the event and whoever they give to.

Premium seating

Suites and club seats

Every suite and club seat in the building is sold by Tidewater Arena Group, on an arena agreement, for the full calendar — not by the team or the university playing that night.

48 suites ring the bowl between the lower level and the mezzanine: 24 center-ice sideline suites for 16, 20 corner/end suites for 12, 4 party suites for 30. Food and drink are extra.

The Wind Walkers Club: about 320 club seats in rows 1-8 of the lower center sections 105-106 and 117-118, with an all-inclusive lounge. Its naming is open for sponsorship.

Suite holders under Tempest suite agreements have first refusal on every event in the building, college games included.

Inquiries

Premium inquiries, first refusal included, are handled by the arena’s own premium office, run by Amy Killburry, General Manager of Hospitality. An event presenter cannot sell, allocate or upgrade a suite in this building.

Box office

$15 per order

A flat $15 fee applies once per order, whatever the size of the order. It is an arena fee and the event presenter cannot change or waive it.

Who to buy from

Arena-presented events are sold here. College basketball is sold by the university, which sets its own prices, seating and season products for its dates. The Tempest and the Lightkeepers sell their own tickets.

What a rep takes off this page

If you sell for Rockbeach (the college tenant)

Five of our sixteen men’s basketball home dates are played here. The page above is what the fan finds when we send them to the building, and almost none of it is ours to change.

  1. It is not our building, so do not defend it. Tidewater Arena Group sets the terms for everybody in it, including the Tempest. “That’s the arena’s policy and I can’t change it, here’s what I can do” is a straight answer. Pretending we chose it is not.
  2. Parking is $50 and there are no donor tiers. A Beacon Society member parks on the same terms as a student’s father. That surprises donors, so say it before they find out in line.
  3. The $15 fee is one flat fee per order and cannot be waived. Not per ticket, not per seat — once, whatever the order size. Quote it unprompted as part of the all-in figure.
  4. We sell the seats; the arena sells the suite. Rockbeach has exactly one suite here, the President’s, and it is not for sale to anybody at any price. A donor with four hundred points cannot buy a suite downtown, and the reason is the lease, not their giving.
  5. The Tempest pick their dates first. A downtown date and its tip-off can move on thirty days’ notice if the hockey calendar needs the building. It is the ordinary condition of being the second tenant, so never promise a downtown tip-off time as though it were fixed.
  6. Hand the fan off by name, and stay on the line. “That one is the arena’s — here is who handles it” keeps the call. Sending somebody to a website and hanging up loses it.

If you sell for the Tempest or the Lightkeepers

The pro and minor league tenants work the same building on the same arena terms. What changes is who you are to the fan.

  1. Same building rules, same straight answer. The $15 order fee and $50 parking are the arena’s for every event, a Tempest member included. Say so plainly; you did not set them and cannot waive them.
  2. You sell the whole seat. A member pays the seat price. There is no gift on top and no points ladder; priority comes from years held. Never borrow the college’s donor language.
  3. Suites and first refusal are the arena’s. Suite holders under Tempest suite agreements get first refusal on every event in the building, Rockbeach’s college games included. A rep never sells or promises a suite: hand it to the arena’s premium office by name.
  4. The Tempest pick dates first; everybody else plans around them. The Lightkeepers and Rockbeach fit their nights around the hockey calendar. Check the arena calendar before you promise a date, a group night or a start time.
  5. Minor league nights sell the night. Lightkeepers fans buy promotions, family packs, birthdays and group outings more than a season. Know the night’s promotion before you pick up the phone.
  6. Hand off by name, and stay on the line. “That one is the arena’s — here is who handles it” keeps the call, whichever tenant you sell for.
